DEV Update 2 Vortiq EFB v1.0.9 + Vortiq Connect v1.0.5

Hello everyone,

so yeah… this is the second dev update for v1.0.9 / v1.0.5.

The first one was only a few days ago, but since then quite a lot has changed again and because the update is releasing tomorrow I wanted to go a bit deeper into what has actually been added and changed.

The biggest thing is still the Moving Map. It has basically turned into a completely different part of the EFB compared to before.

Live VATSIM traffic is now directly integrated into the map, including aircraft heading, callsign/details and altitude filtering. ATC is also shown directly on the map now with real FIR/sector data, controller coverage, frequencies and different service types like CTR, APP, DEP, TWR, GND, DEL and ATIS.

The EFB can also detect which FIR you are currently in and which active FIR comes next on your route, including an approximate distance to the entry point.

Weather on the map got a lot more work as well. Radar handling has been improved, SIGMETs/AIRMETs are better integrated and there are now proper turbulence, icing and convection layers.

The Vertical Profile has also had a huge upgrade. Your live aircraft position is now shown directly on it, including your current flight level. You can zoom and move around the profile and waypoint/TOD/TOC positioning is much more accurate now because it follows the actual geographic route instead of just spacing everything out.

SPLIT VIEW.

On iPad you can now use two different EFB pages at the same time. So for example Map + NavLog, OFP + Performance, Map + Web, whatever you want.

Pinned web tools also work independently on both sides, so you can basically keep something like charts, SimBrief or another web tool open while still using the rest of the EFB.

Vortiq Connect also got a much bigger upgrade than I originally planned.

X-Plane 11 and 12 support is now included, with automatic simulator detection between MSFS and X-Plane.

X-Plane discovery was also improved so Connect can automatically find the correct UDP connection instead of relying on a manually configured endpoint.

The live flight system itself is also a lot better now. Flight phases are detected more reliably, including GROUND ROLL, CLIMB, DESCENT and AIRBORNE states, and the old climb detection limitation above 10,000 ft is gone.

A lot more of this live data is now used across the EFB as well, including automatic flight event timing and the Auto Logbook.

The Auto Logbook combines your SimBrief flight with live simulator data and prepares most of the logbook entry automatically after the flight.

Performance also received another pretty big round of work. B737 landing performance has been improved using updated PMDG QRH reference data, including better runway condition and autobrake handling.

B777 landing calculations were also corrected to use pressure altitude properly.

There have also been improvements to the Loadsheet, NavLog, Scratchpad, GSX integration, VATSIM Frequencies, authentication, startup behaviour and a lot of smaller UI/input issues that came up during beta testing.

Vortiq Connect also now has QR pairing, improved diagnostics, better Windows firewall handling and a cleaner status interface.

At this point v1.0.9 has been through a lot of beta testing and honestly the update ended up becoming way bigger than I first planned.

Vortiq EFB v1.0.9 and Vortiq Connect v1.0.5 are planned to release TOMORROW.

I have mostly been using today for final checks, polishing and making sure nothing stupid breaks right before release lol.

Thanks again to everyone who tested the update, sent bug reports, suggestions and screenshots over the last few weeks.

A lot of what is in this update exists because of that feedback.

Tomorrow should be fun :)

Kind regards
Liam
